When I go to conferences, I tend to experience the same awkward situation over and over again. People looking at each other weirdly, not knowing how to start a conversation. If they do, it usually kicks off with the typical:
"So, what do you do for work?"
While it is often relevant, it is almost always not the most interesting thing about that person and generally results in a conversation about work rather than an opportunity to make a real connection and build a relationship.
That's why I've developed my Empathy Cards. Think of them like a deck of cards that open up the opportunity for thoughtful, meaningful conversations that change the way people see each other.
These packs of 20 cards come in a neat box set and can be shared at conference tables or spread across a venue to invite participants to reach across the barriers of awkward silence and turn strangers into curious colleagues.
This is one of our Empathy Card Questions
